Please note:
In this punch needle project, you will use different needle lengths and work from both the front and back side of your work. This way you get a playful mix of longer and shorter loops, as well as flat stitches. Pay careful attention to when you need to turn your work over.

How to punch these busy bees

Step 1:
Stretch the fabric into the embroidery hoop and trace the pattern onto both sides of the fabric.

Step 2:
Thread your punch needle with Mustard and set the needle length to 3. We begin with the right honeycomb. Punch the topmost of the three hexagons with Mustard. When needle punching, always work from the outside in. Therefore, begin with the outline then fill in the hexagon. Once you have completely filled this hexagon, cut the yarn and turn your work over.

Step 3:
You now work from the side where the loops of your first punched hexagon are. Thread your punch needle with Golden Glow and leave the needle length set at 3. Punch the hexagon on the right. Finished with this color? Cut the yarn and thread your needle with Cantaloupe. Set the needle length to 4 and punch the hexagon on the left. Repeat these steps for the remaining honeycomb(s). Play around with different needle lengths and use a mix of flat stitches and loops.

Step 4:
Turn your work over to the side from which you worked the first hexagon of the honeycombs. You should now have one flat hexagon and two with loops. It is now time to punch the hearts. Thread your punch needle with Peony Pink and punch the hearts with needle length 3. Cut the yarn when they are finished.

Step 5:
Punch the Larimar wings from the same side. Also use the same needle length. Continue with Black and punch the bees’ eyes, mouths, stripes, stingers, feet, and antennae.

Step 6:
Then thread the punch needle with Mustard and punch the heads of the bees. After that, turn your work over and punch the yellow stripes on the bodies.

Step 7:
This step is optional. Once you are done, turn your work over and check for any stray loops sticking out above the rest. Carefully tug the loops around them with a small (crochet) hook to bring them all to the correct height.

Step 8:
You have finished punching the cute spring motif! What will you do with yours? You could hang it up on your wall or give it to someone as a gift.
